A secure and stable lock is important in your own home for gates and doors, but also for windows and furniture. After all, all of these should only be open when we really want them to be. And that is exactly why they were invented: gate bolts. The function of these little helpers is to ensure an optimal closure in gate or door locking systems. And for this purpose, different options have become established depending on the application area. Which version is used depends, among other things, on the size, weight, and design of the gate, door, or piece of furniture. Individual preferences and the budget also play a role.

Find the right gate bolt
Not all gate bolts are the same. Today, the areas of application are diverse. For example, there are gate bolts for entrance or driveway gates, swing gates, sliding gates, garden gates and garden shed doors, stable doors, or multi-purpose doors. They are also sometimes used on furniture. Some of the most important variants are the following:
- Hook-over gate bolt: Hook-over gate bolts are a metal frame that is placed around a door so that thieves and intruders have no chance. Most of these components are designed to open outward – so they cannot be seen from the inside. Optimal protection, then, that can be installed in place with just a few screws.
- Double gate hook-over bolt: For double-leaf gates, there are double gate hook-over bolts, also called garden gate fasteners. They are made from different materials such as steel, stainless steel, wrought iron, or galvanization and are therefore used both indoors and outdoors.
- Floor bolt or gate drop bolt: These gate bolts are used in particular to secure the second leaf on double gates.
- Sliding bolt: This version is held in the upper position by means of a spring and a shaped catch.
- Universal bolt: This uncomplicated version fits in many cases. Practical and decorative lock bolts like these not only enhance doors and furniture, but are also an attractive element for shutters or flaps.
- Steel hook with angle plates: These are used specifically as storm security
- Security door bolt with combination lock: Anyone who places great value on security should choose this version.
We also offer strike plates. And anyone wanting to fit particularly heavy gates or doors with gate bolts should opt for heavy-duty versions. This often requires a base plate so that the locking mechanism at the lower end of the bolt becomes even more stable.
Various durable materials
The material also plays a role when selecting the right gate bolt. For our products, we place particular emphasis on steel or stainless steel. Both are resistant, robust, and durable. If you want something more modern, choose black versions; if you prefer a classic look, opt for galvanized products.
Easy installation of gate bolts
Depending on the version, gate bolts often come with a bolt, also called a latch bolt, with screw-on plate, a rod guide, and, if applicable, a base plate. All of this can be assembled quickly and mounted on various surfaces such as wood, metal, or steel without much effort. Nevertheless, it is advisable to take a look at the respective installation instructions to find details on dimensions, screw holes, or the overall length in both the closed and open state. It is also advisable to transfer the exact position of the rod guide onto the gate leaf in advance and mark important details. Depending on the surface material, screws are then driven in using a drill or special attachments.
