What are the different types of wood glue?
There are different types of wood glue, which differ in their properties and intended uses.
- PVA glue (polyvinyl acetate): This is the most common type of wood glue, used both indoors and outdoors. PVA glue bonds quickly, but is not very water-resistant.
- Aliphatic resin adhesives: These are also quick to process and are ideal for indoor use. They are moisture-resistant and therefore well suited for environments with high humidity.
- Epoxy resins: These resins are very durable and waterproof. They cure slowly and require a curing time of at least 24 hours. This makes them ideal for outdoor applications or high-stress projects.
- Hot-melt adhesives: They dry quickly and are therefore especially suitable for smaller projects. However, they are less durable and water-resistant than other adhesives.
- Polyurethane glues: They are extremely strong and waterproof, ideal for outdoor use or heavily stressed wood joints. They cure quickly and expand during the drying process to fill gaps.
It is important to choose the right wood glue for your specific project in order to achieve optimal results.
