What are joist hangers and what are they used for?
Beam shoes are special elements in timber construction used to connect wooden beams. They are usually made of galvanized steel and are available in various shapes and sizes to suit different beam dimensions and structural requirements.
Beam shoes are mainly divided into two types:
- Support beam shoes: These are used when the beam rests on another beam or a wall. They are generally flatter and provide a solid base for supporting and fastening the beam.
- Angle beam shoes: These are used when beams are to be connected at a right angle. They are shaped at a 90° angle and are attached to both beams to ensure a stable connection.
In principle, beam shoes are used to enable stable and secure timber structures. They create a solid connection between the beams and help improve the structural stability and load-bearing capacity of the entire building. They also allow for faster and easier installation than traditional timber joinery techniques.
