What are furniture glides and what are they used for?
Furniture glides are accessories primarily used to make moving furniture easier while protecting the floor from scratches and damage. They are available in various shapes, sizes, and materials, including plastic, felt, and metal, to meet the different requirements of furniture and flooring.
There are essentially three main types of furniture glides:
- Adhesive glides: These are attached to the underside of furniture and are ideal for lightweight pieces such as dining chairs.
- Nail-on or screw-on glides: These are hammered or screwed into the furniture piece and are a good choice for heavier furniture such as sofas or tables.
- Insert glides: These are installed into a hole drilled into the furniture piece and are ideal for larger or heavier furniture with square or round legs.
Furniture glides help move furniture such as beds, chairs, tables, and cabinets easily across the floor without leaving marks or scratching the surface. They can also provide extra protection for your furniture by preventing scratches and scuffs on the furniture legs.
