How is the position of dowel hinges determined?
Determining the position of mortise hinges is not too complicated if you follow these steps:
- Step 1: First, determine the type of door you want to install. Mortise hinges are perfect for flush doors where a clean, seamless look is desired.
- Step 2: Next, measure the distance from the top edge of the door to the top edge of the first hinge and from the bottom edge of the door to the bottom edge of the lowest hinge. A common practice is to place the top hinge about 125 mm and the bottom hinge about 250 mm from the edge of the door.
- Step 3: If more than two hinges are used, distribute them evenly along the length of the door. The exact positions vary depending on the size and weight of the door, but the same general principle of balance applies.
- Step 4: Finally, mark the position of the hinge on the door and on the door frame. Make sure the hinge is in the same position on both the door and the door frame to ensure the door hangs correctly.
It is important to carefully measure and double-check all measurements before drilling to ensure the positions are correct.
