How do I replace a doorknob?

Replacing a door knob is a simple task that you can do yourself with just a few tools. Follow these steps:

• First, you will need a screwdriver to remove the screws on the inside of the door. Remove the screws holding the rosettes (decorative plates) on both sides of the door and pull them off.
• Then you should be able to separate the two parts of the door knob from each other. Remove the inside and outside parts of the knob and set them aside.
• Now you need to remove the mortise lock (the part that is inserted into the edge of the door and latches the strike plate in the door frame). Unscrew the screws holding the mortise lock in place and pull it out of the door.
• Take your new door knob and insert the new mortise lock. Secure it with the screws provided.
• Push the new door knob through the mortise lock. Make sure the parts are properly aligned: the knob you turn to lock the door should be on the inside. Secure the door knob with the screws provided.
