How do I choose the right furniture glides for my furniture?

The selection of the right furniture glide depends on various factors. First of all, you should consider the type of flooring. For parquet or laminate, felt glides are ideal, while plastic glides are better suited for carpets.

Second, the weight of the piece of furniture must be taken into account. Heavy furniture requires more robust glides than lighter items. At the same time, the shape of the furniture feet plays a role. There are special glides for round, square, or angled feet, among others.

Then there are differences in the type of glide attachment. There are glides for gluing, screwing, or nailing. Adhesive glides are easy to apply, but can fall off when the furniture is moved frequently. Screw-on and nail-on glides are more stable, but require some preparation.

Finally, you should also consider the intended use. Should the furniture be easy to move, or should it mainly protect the floor? In the former case, a Teflon glide is suitable, while felt or plastic glides are sufficient for pure protection purposes.

  • Consider the floor type: felt glides for parquet/laminate, plastic glides for carpet
  • Consider the weight and shape of the furniture
  • Choose the type of attachment: glue, screw, nail
  • Define the purpose: easy movement (Teflon glides) or floor protection (felt/plastic glides)
