How do I change a light bulb in a closed light fixture?
Before you begin, make sure the light fixture is switched off and has cooled down to avoid burns. Always wear gloves when handling glass.
Follow the steps below to change the light bulb:
- Open the fixture: Enclosed light fixtures usually have a bracket, clips, or screws that hold the glass or diffuser in place. Locate these fasteners and carefully loosen them to remove the cover. On some fixtures, you turn the glass dome or diffuser counterclockwise to remove it.
- You should now have access to the light bulb. Turn the old bulb counterclockwise to remove it. If it does not turn easily, try gripping it with a dry cloth for extra traction.
- Insert the new bulb by turning it clockwise into the socket. Make sure it is seated securely.
- Finally, reattach the cover or diffuser and secure it with the original brackets, screws, or clips. Switch on the fixture to make sure the new bulb works.
