How can I adjust the tension of my flap hinges?

Adjusting the tension on your cabinet hinges is a simple process and can be done in a few steps.

  • First, open the cabinet and locate the hinge. The hinges are usually on the inside of the cabinet door.
  • Then look for the adjustment screw on the hinge. In most cases, it is the middle screw in the set of three screws.
  • Using a screwdriver, you can turn the adjustment screw to change the hinge tension. Turning the screw clockwise increases the tension, making the door close more tightly. Turning the screw counterclockwise decreases the tension and makes the door close more easily.
  • Adjust the tension so that the door closes properly, but not so tightly that it becomes difficult to open.
  • Repeat this process for all other hinges on the door.

Keep in mind that these instructions apply to the most common types of hinges, but not all hinges are built exactly this way. If you have trouble adjusting the tension, it may be a good idea to consult a professional.
