Can shelf supports also be used for plasterboard walls?

Yes, you can also use shelf supports for drywall walls, but with certain limitations and additional considerations due to the structure and strength of drywall. This type of wall material is ideal for interior design because it is lightweight and easy to install, but it is not as stable as masonry or wood.

Drywall panels have a limited load-bearing capacity. Therefore, they cannot support a high weight. If you plan to place heavy items on the shelves, you must take additional precautions:

  • Use special drywall anchors, which are available either as expansion or toggle anchors and can support a higher load.
  • Make sure to fasten the support into a stud (metal post between two drywall panels). This requires precise work and possibly the assistance of a professional.
  • For very heavy loads, additional support panels made of wood or metal may be necessary, which are attached to the wall before the shelf support is installed.

In general, make sure not to exceed the load limits of your drywall walls in order to avoid safety risks.
